The Role of Professional Association in Increasing Maintenance and Production Reliability: A Perspective in Corrosion Mitigation

Abstract
Professional associations have traditionally focused their activities in the provision of services to members. However, this need not be their only role. NACE International, the corrosion engineering and science community, that is recognized around the world as the premier authority for corrosion control solutions has chosen to take a proactive approach to changing industrial attitudes toward corrosion.

Through a variety of strategies, the Association which mission to protect people, assets, and the environment from the effects of corrosion, has been able to increase skills of individual members, promote awareness to every industry for better maintenance against corrosion to enhance their production reliabilities, introduce and implement effective and highest quality of corrosion controls' practices and provide better accessibility of information gain to all its members.

The 12 Middle East Corrosion Conference and Exhibition is planned for February 3-6, 2008 at the Gulf International Convention Centre, Gulf Hotel in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. The West Asia & Africa Region and the Saudi Arabia Section of NACE International along with the Bahrain Society of Engineers started this series of conferences in 1979. The conference, since then, has been successful in providing a knowledge sharing platform for professionals in all areas of corrosion prevention and control in different industries worldwide which includes engineers, researchers, professors, developers, vendors and service providers. The contribution of major companies and organizations has always played an important role in the success of this event. The technical program of the conference will have plenary lectures by distinguished international figures in the corrosion industry. The various disciplines of corrosion prevention and control will also be covered in different sessions in the technical program. The exhibition running parallel to the conference will demonstrate the latest developments in products, solutions and services in the corrosion prevention and corrosioncontrol fields.
